The Puget Sound industrial market was once expected to
escape the global recession unscathed. When financial turmoil began to
ramp up in late 2008, forecasters remarked that the region, with its preponderance
of high tech jobs and an educated workforce would weather the storm better
than most. At first, employment drops were only seen in the region’s secondary
employers. But with new contractions in aerospace, software and other core
industries, the Puget Sound now joins the rest of the country in its recession.
While the region has not escaped this downturn unscathed, expect the market
to weather it better than most.
