Welcome to our November report covering activity
in October 2006.
Experience has taught us that interpreting economic
data as a guide to the future performance of the
property market is a dangerous practice - even for
economists. We have been experiencing a slowing
economy, currency woes, and talk of a possible
recession all year. But in this report we touch on
rising net immigration, falling inflation, a resilient
housing market, and increasing business confidence.
Of course there are issues - lower rates of growth in
the economy, tourism, and retail spending for
example - but talk of hard landings seems to have
been slowly replaced in the last few months by talk
of soft landings.
