2009 Spring Economic Brief
Report Summary

Colliers Meredith & Grew is pleased to provide a copy of its Spring 2009 Economic Brief, a snapshot of key statistics on the state and local economy.

State revenue forecasts appear to be revised downward almost daily and present a bleak picture for the current and upcoming fiscal years. Although Massachusetts moved into recession later than many states, job losses are mounting and the unemployment rate is 7.8%. The lone bright spot is the Education and Health Services sector, where employment growth—while slowing—remains positive. Although it is too early to suggest that the recession may be bottoming out, early indications suggest that the April employment numbers—which will be released later this week—will at least show the pace of job losses to be slowing.
